Ontario is helping Nordia Inc., establish a new contact centre in Peterborough that will create at least 233 jobs.
Nordia is Canada’s largest provider of customer service solutions in the telecommunications sector, with nine contact centres Canada-wide employing about 3,100 people. The contact centres offer customer service support, directory assistance, teleconferencing services and technology-assisted relay services for hearing and speech-impaired customers.
A grant of $181,510 from the province’s Eastern Ontario Development Fund will help the company open a new facility in downtown Peterborough, bringing the number of contact centres operated by Nordia in Ontario to three.
The Eastern Ontario Development Fund is driving job creation and business growth, and was the model for the successful Southwestern Ontario Development Fund. Since 2008 these two funds have strengthened local economies by generating private sector commitments to create and retain more than 28,000 jobs across the province.
Helping businesses stay competitive and grow in Ontario is part of the government's economic plan that is creating jobs for today and tomorrow by investing in people, building modern infrastructure and supporting a dynamic and innovative business climate.
“Our government is focused on keeping our economy growing and thriving so we can stay ahead in the fiercely competitive global economy. Nordia is an example of strong, innovative and dynamic companies that drive economic growth and create jobs in our province. Congratulations and welcome to Peterborough.”
— Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure
