Peterborough Economic Development Corporation, Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism division is receiving $70,000.00 through the Rural Economic Development program to develop the Peterborough & Kawarthas Tourism Travel Media Relations Project.
Supporting rural communities is part of the government’s economic plan for Ontario. The four-part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people's talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.
RED is a program with a strong record of job creation and economic growth, and it vital for rural communities. Through the 2014 Budget, our government has tripled the investment for the Rural Economic Development (RED) Program, increasing funding by $10 million.
We know that to be competitive we must become more innovative and flexible. That’s why the RED program is focused on those high-value, low-cost projects that create jobs, and build a foundation for economic growth and investment.
“A strong, prosperous Ontario includes vibrant, economically diverse rural communities. By providing economic development support at both the local and regional level, the Rural Economic Development program helps create jobs and strengthens rural communities across Ontario.”
- Jeff Leal, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
"Hosting the Travel Media Association of Canada conference here in Peterborough in June 2015 is an incredible opportunity, not only for this destination to gain valuable media coverage, but for us to continue to develop and promote the many experiences our region has to offer. These funds will help us to capitalize on this opportunity as part of our ongoing media relations work, and to further develop products and experiences that will ultimately drive increased visitation to, and spending in Peterborough & the Kawarthas."
- Fiona Dawson, Director of Tourism, Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism
