For Immediate Release
Ontario has approved the building of 1 new school in the Peterborough Riding to provide students with modern and improved places to learn while creating local construction jobs.
Local project: EEC/ESC Peterborough
Building new schools and modernizing learning spaces is part of the government’s economic plan that is creating jobs for today and tomorrow. The comprehensive plan and its six priorities focus on Ontario’s greatest strengths — its people and strategic partnerships.
“Our government is supporting the construction of safe, modern facilities that meet the needs of students and school staff in Peterborough Riding. When we help our local school boards improve and expand their infrastructure, we’re helping teachers and support staff focus on what matters most — student growth and success.”
— The Honourable Jeff Leal, MPP
“By continuing our support for new school buildings and renovations across Ontario, we are providing our children with better places to learn. This contributes to student success in school and beyond and creates construction jobs in local communities.”
— Liz Sandals, Minister of Education
“We are pleased that the Ministry of Education (EDU) has acknowledged the need for a French Catholic high school in the region that to date had been underserved. The CSDCCS is honored that the francophone community will now be able to exercise its right to publicly funded French-language Catholic secondary education in Peterborough.”
- Nathalie Dufour-Séguin, Chair of the CSDCCS
“A JK to Grade 12 school will significantly allow students to remain in our school system, starting at the elementary level right through to high school. Currently, the nearest French Catholic High School is ÉSC Saint-Charles-Garnier in Whitby and it is located at about 90 km from Peterborough, so students need to travel a long distance to get to school.”
- Réjean Sirois, Director of Education
