Jeff Leal Biography Jeff Leal was born on December 13, 1954, in Peterborough, where he has lived almost his entire life. He attended St. John The Baptist Elementary School and subsequently graduated from Kenner Collegiate in 1974. Jeff attended Trent University where he graduated in 1978 with an Honours B.A. in Economics and Political Science.

Thereafter, he attended the University of Windsor, where he graduated in 1981 with an Honours degree in Business Administration.

Jeff is married to Karan, a local school teacher.  They are parents to Braden and Shanae. 

Jeff was a Peterborough city councillor for Otonabee Ward and second deputy mayor. He was elected to city council 17 years ago and has served in numerous capacities. He was chairperson of the County/City of Peterborough Joint Social Services Committee, vice-chair of the County/City Waste Management Steering Committee, chairperson of the City of Peterborough Library Board, and chairperson of the City of Peterborough's Social Services Committee. Jeff has also been employed at Coyle Corrugated Packaging Containers in Peterborough as the Health and Safety representative.

In 2003, Jeff ran for and won the nomination to be the Liberal candidate for the Riding of Peterborough. In October of the same year, Jeff was elected for the first time to the Ontario Legislature as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Peterborough.

On October 27, 2004, with great pride, Jeff was bestowed upon, by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Premier Dalton McGuinty, the privileges and responsibilities of Parliamentary Assistant in the Ministry of Training, Colleges, & Universities. On Monday, June 11, 2005, Jeff was given a new role as Parliamentary Assistant in the Ministry of Economic Development & Trade. In this Ministry, Jeff was Chair and a member of the Small Business Agency of Ontario.
In November of 2005, Jeff was named Parliamentary Assistant in the Ministry of Energy. In the Ministry of Energy Jeff was Chair of the Conservation Action Team and was proactive in furthering Ontario's conservation initiatives In September of 2006, Jeff was named Parliamentary Assistant in the Ministry of the Environment. In this role, Jeff assisted the Minister with the implementation of related environmental initiatives, and was active in chairing a cross-Ontario Clean Water Act information session tour.

In the 2007 Ontario Provincial Election, Jeff ran as the Liberal candidate and was re-elected as Peterborough’s representative at the Ontario Legislature. Soon thereafter, to Jeff's credit and in a vote of confidence by Cabinet, he was selected to be Parliamentary Assistant in the new, stand-alone Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs.

Jeff has represented his constituents with diligence and integrity for more than 17 years. He has worked extensively with the county and local governments, as well as the City of Peterborough, and understands the issues facing the people of Peterborough riding. Jeff is committed to moving our community forward together, without leaving anyone behind.
